Elkus Manfredi’s Third Rock Ventures offices in Boston artfully blend residential and hospitality design to foster innovation, featuring inviting spaces that inspire collaboration and house stunning views of Fenway Park.
At the top of the newly constructed 201 Brookline Avenue in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood, this 24,000-sf buildout for Third Rock Ventures (TRV) is the ideal environment for a venture capital firm focused on investing in and supporting the development of early-stage biotechnology and life sciences companies.
The workspace draws inspiration from both residential and hospitality design, cultivating a comfortable environment that is welcoming and inspires innovation.
Highlights begin with a welcoming lobby encompassing a custom-millwork reception desk and an inviting seating area, brought together by an antique mantle that once graced a Back Bay residence and symbolizes the warmth of home.
The workspace includes private offices, breakout rooms, a large boardroom with an adjacent catering kitchen, and open collaboration areas designed to support Third Rock Ventures’ hands-on approach to nurturing the companies they invest in.
Reinforcing TRV’s mission to improve the lives of patients through bold ideas and transformative science, the Patient Impact Wall is a collection of imagery and design elements that showcases examples of successful therapies created by TRV-supported companies.
The design also incorporates an expansive, inviting kitchen/family room with two islands and bar seating. The space includes open areas with a variety of seating, including tables and booth-style seating. The place to build connections that build trust and positively impact community, the kitchen/family room has become a magnet for the spontaneous creative collisions that spark ideas.
With an outside patio area and floor-to-ceiling windows that line one entire side of the office, the space features views of legendary Fenway Park, the Charles River, and downtown Boston – all creating an inspiring backdrop for TRV staff and the innovative enterprises they support.
