BASE Kaixuan

Along Kaixuan Road, running parallel to an elevated train line, and within a mostly residential area, sits Base Kaixuan offices. Formerly a Jiaotong University extensive education building, the structure was transformed by MASS DESIGN into offices.
The pre-existing five-storey atrium is kept and used to mark the entrance as well as to organize the traffic. On the other hand the façade is extensively transformed into an abstract composition of horizontal stripes, where rough plaster bands frame horizontal glazed openings that ensure plenty of natural light into the office spaces.
