To introduce public space to the building MASS Design removed the former wall surrounding the property and opened up the courtyard to the street. The four-story office building was stripped down to white stucco walls with long horizontal lines of the balconies and black details of the windows and handrails making it stand out less in a historical atmosphere. Volumes facing the street were reprogrammed to retail spaces and MASS Design did interior design for café Grains. By placing big wooden sliding windows along the façade facing the street cafe opens up to Wukang Road creating a vibrant community atmosphere.
